RONALD JOHN KELLY
Ron battled hard against Dementia the whole time while in the comfort of his home, with family, until it took him Sunday night in the Health Science Centre. Left to mourn Ron is his loving wife of 65 years, Audree Kelly (née Wighton); son, Todd Anthony Wighton Kelly; grandaughter Riley; as well as brother, Robert. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Gracie Kelly (née Coles) and George Kelly; as well as brother George Kelly.
Ron married Audree on December 3, 1955 & had a son, Todd in 1961.
Ron played professional football within the Canadian Football League. He played for four seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1953 to 1956; three seasons with the Calgary Stampeders from 1957 to 1959; and then two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders from 1960 to 1961. Ron was noted in the newspaper over 70 times for his football activities including having his picture on a Collector’s Card. Sadly, knee problems took him out of the game in 1961.
After football, Ron worked at Western Engine Builders from 1961 to 1971 and became the Plant Manager. Ron then worked with his brother, Robert, as a Denturist from 1971 to 1994. In April 1995, Ron and his son, Todd, opened their own Denturist Business called “R.J. Kelly Denture Centre” which was located on Portage Avenue, and then moved to Provencher Boulevard in 1989. Unfortunately, Ron developed Dementia which forced him to retire in 2011.
Ron loved working in his yard at home and going to their cottage in the summer months with Audree. Audree and Ron were extremely successful in breeding and showing miniature Schnauzer’s; managing to have “Top Dog” in Canada as well as having hundreds of 1st place showing throughout Canada and U.S.A. Their rec room in their home was filled from wall to wall with ribbons, dog show trophies, and ribbon presentation pictures.

Ronny, my Life with you could not have been better. We had beautiful times together. We were blessed with happiness for many years. I wish we had many more. I don’t know how I am going to live without you. My time will come and I pray I will be with you again. I miss you terribly. You were & are te love of my life.

Dad… my best friend, you taught me how to play many sports but mostly football, we hoped that I would play professionally, but I also had a knee injury that took our hope out of the game. You spent so much time teaching and training me to be a denturist like you with success. Dad, you never faulted at being a loving and caring father. You were always there for me throughout the good and bad, supporting me through the dozens of surgeries, starting when I was 16 years old. It is so hard to believe you are gone.
