Former Bombers Canadian OL Matthias Goossen joins Delta Police Department

By 3Down Staff February 6, 2019

Matthias Goossen used to protect quarterbacks and now he’ll put those powers towards protecting the public as a police officer with the Delta Police Department in B.C.

Goossen grew up in nearby Richmond, B.C.

The Bombers selected Goossen second overall in the 2014 CFL draft. He played 87 games for Winnipeg, starting 64 regular season contests and four more in the playoffs.

Goossen became the Bombers’ starting centre midway through the 2015 season after being selected second overall in the 2014 CFL draft. Named a CFLPA all-star in 2017, Goossen got his first West Division and CFL all-star nod in 2018 after his best professional season. The Simon Fraser product is still just 26 years of age.

Clearly Goossen has slimmed down – meaning the Bombers knew the pro football retirement was coming – from his 300-plus pound playing weight and been preparing for his law enforcement days for a while.
