MACFARLANE, Dave
1929 – October 25, 2016
With broken hearts we sadly announce the passing of Dave Macfarlane on October 25, 2016 at Richmond Hospital with his loving wife, Marilyn, by his side. Dave is survived by his wife, children David, Bruce (Lisa), Shirley (Brian), grandchildren Lara, Samara, Ben, Rob, step-grandchildren Devon, Corey and sister Mary Louise Munro, predeceased by Nev. A Calgary Stampeder, UBC Thunderbird and Magee Lion, Dave was an athlete and a leader. He was recognized as one of UBCs outstanding athletes of the year as a recipient of the Bobby Gaul as well as the Dr. Gordon Burke inspirational player award and was inducted into the UBC Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. He is remembered as a coach and volunteer at UBC and Meralomas’ Football and for his children’s teams in Little League Baseball and Minor Hockey. He enjoyed a successful career as a partner with Brouwer & Co. Insurance Adjusters, and in his retirement could be found every week day as part of the first foursome at Point Grey GC for over 25 years. He lived life on his own terms and will be dearly missed. In the words of a good friend, “Dave was a giver and not a taker… he was one of the good guys… “. Celebration of Life at Point Grey Golf Club, Tuesday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m.
