The Langley Rams have named Cory Philpot as their new head coach ahead of the 2021 season.

A former Grey Cup champ, Philpot first joined the Rams for the 2018 season, their first of back to back Cullen Cup championship titles.  As a matter of fact, he’s been part of the Rams coaching staff in their two straight Canadian Bowl appearances in 2018 and 2019.

He is certainly no stranger to the BC Conference sitting on the Board of Directors from 2010 to 2017 serving as a Game Commissioner and the Conference Head Coach.  He also coached with the Rams in 2005 and the Vancouver Trojans from 2006-2009.  In 2015 he became the first President of the BC Provincial Football Association (BCPFA).

Philpot won a Grey Cup with the BC Lions in 1994 and was named a CFL All-Star in 1995 when he set a new single season touchdown record with 22.  History has a tendency to repeat itself, as Philpot coached the Rams running backs which included Andrew Pocrnic who set his own CJFL record for rushing touchdowns in a single season, tallying 26 in 2019.

In all, Philpot played eight seasons in the CFL with the Lions and Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  He rushed for 5213 yards on 882 carries and had 46 rushing touchdowns.  He also caught 173 passes for 1870 yards and 11 more majors.

His Rams will open defence of their Cullen Cup titles on Saturday September 11th when they visit the VI Raiders.
