On Sunday, June 6, 2021, Richard Alan Mohr, loving husband and father passed away at age 61. Rick suffered a heart attack while playing golf at Quail Lodge Golf Course. Rick was born in San Francisco, CA on July 27, 1959 to Jo Ann Patricia Fritz and Richard Alan Mohr. Rick is survived by his wife, Rhonda Mohr, and children – Tanner Mohr, Samantha Richards, Dakotah Mohr, Brittany Mohr and Matthew Richards.
Rick was a star football player at the University of California at Davis. While at Davis, Rick played in the Knute Rockne Bowl in 1977 (NCAA II Semifinal game) and the NCAA II Quarterfinal game in 1978. He was a four-year varsity letterman, outstanding freshman (1977), Defensive Captain (1980), Far Western Conference All League 2nd team (1979), Far Western Conference All League 1st team (1980), and UC Davis Outstanding Lineman, (1980). He lettered in Varsity track and field all four years in the shot put and discus. He was selected as one of UC Davis Chancellor’s Outstanding Student Leaders, (1981) and graduated with a degree in Architectural Design.
Rick signed as a free agent with the Green Bay Packers in 1981. Released after playing two games, he signed with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League. He led the Argonauts in QB (quarterback) Sacks with 9.5 for the season. His team played in the Eastern Final game and then the Grey Cup. In 1983 Rick continued to play for the Toronto Argonauts leading the team in QB sacks, this time with 15.5 (still the 3rd most in their history). He was selected to the CFL Eastern Division All-Stars and the CFL’s All-Canadian All-Star team. His team played in the Eastern Final and the Grey Cup again, winning this time and securing a Grey Cup ring. Rick was chosen to play in the CFL All-Star game. In 1984 he signed with the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL (coached by Steve Spurrier). Part way into the season he was traded to the Oakland Invaders and played 2 games before he re-signed with the Toronto Argonauts and then traded to Saskatchewan Roughriders. He started all 16 games with them and led the team in QB sacks, with 10.5. In 1985, Rick continued with the Roughriders starting all 14 games and led the team in QB sacks with 10. In 1986, he retired from Saskatchewan.
After Football, Rick started his career in Security as a Security Systems Consultant in 1986 with Robert C. Hardy and Associates. From 1989-1991 he was the Principal and Founder of Mohr and Associates. From there, Rick stepped in as CEO and Managing Partner for Andersen-Mohr and Associates from 1991-2001. He went on to be National Accounts Manager for Siemens Building Technologies from 2001-2005 before joining HID Global in 2005; where he would spend the remainder of his career as the Director of North American Channel Sales / PACS.
Rick was inducted into the first-ever Analy High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2014 (Class of 1977). He loved golf, traveling, taking photos, great food and wine. He had fond memories of his lifelong friends and SAE brotherhood. He not only took a special interest in his team at HID and their personal lives but also his customers as many became close friends. He is remembered by friends and family as a gentle giant. He especially took pride in being a 3rd generation San Franciscan. He often told stories about sneaking under the fence to play golf at Harding Park. He will be missed by many and never forgotten.
Rick’s Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 19th at 6pm on the 15th green of the Quail Lodge Golf Course. All are invited to join the family to celebrate his life.
