CFL Alumnus Ralph “Marty” Huff Passes

Obituary

Ralph “Marty” Huff passed away on June 29, 2023 in Regency Hospital at the age of 74. He was born December 19, 1948 in Houston, Texas to Ralph & Martha (Jackson) Huff . Marty grew up in Toledo and went to school at Holy Rosary Cathedral and graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School in 1967. While attending St. Francis, he excelled in football being named Division 1 First Team All-State in Ohio. After high school, he received an athletic scholarship to play football at the University of Michigan. Marty played linebacker and was voted first team All-American his senior year. In 1971, he was drafted in the NFL by the San Francisco 49ers. Marty also played for the Washington Redskins, the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League and the Charlotte Hornets in the World Football League.

Marty is preceded in death by his parents Martha & Ralph (Football star at Indiana University); grandparents Carrie & Allen Jackson; brother Andy Huff (SFS ‘68); son Ben, (followed his father’s footsteps and was on the 1997 National & Big Ten Championship team at U of M); grandson John Rainey and Sister-in-law Jane Huff.

He is survived by his wife Bridget; son Jason (Jennifer) Huff; daughter Lisa Rainey; brothers Jim Huff (SFS’61), Bill (SFS’64) (Karen) Huff and Tom (SFS’71) (Barb) Huff: grandchildren Kayla (Taylor) Stubbs, Peyton (Duncan) Van Schalkwyk , Bo Huff; stepdaughter Holli Majoris; step grandchildren Avery and Aiden Oess. In lieu of flowers, Memorial tributes may be made to Michigan Athletic Dept; c/o The Ben Huff Memorial Scholarship 1000 S. State St. Ann Arbor , MI 48109.

Memorial Funeral Service will be held September 9, 2023 at 11 AM in St. Francis de Sales Chapel followed by a luncheon and fellowship n the cafeteria.
