Obituary for Charles John Diamond Jr.

On Sunday, May 10, 2020, Charles John Diamond Jr. passed away. A 1955 graduate of Miami’s Archbishop Curley High School, Diamond starred at the University of Miami from 1956 to 1958. At 6’2 and 262 pounds, Diamond was the largest player on a Canes offensive line in the late 1950s.
After playing one season in the CFL in 1959, Charlie Diamond joined the Dallas Texans of the new American Football League in 1960, coached by former University of Miami assistant Hank Stram. Diamond was part of the 1962 Texans that won the AFL title. The Texans moved the following year to Kansas City and became the Chiefs, where Diamond played his final season.
Following his pro career, Diamond returned to South Florida. An avid outdoors man, he enjoyed spending time fishing in the Florida Keys and developed a passion for the preservation of marine life. He remained close with the University of Miami and is a donor to the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, dedicated to environmental protection and ensuring the safety and sustainability of fish populations around the globe. Charlie Diamond was 83.
