Canadian linebacker Jean-Gabriel Poulin retires from CFL

Canadian linebacker and former Western Mustangs star Jean-Gabriel Poulin has retired from the Canadian Football League.

Poulin wrote the following on his Instagram page.

Today, it’s with a heavy heart that I announce my retirement from professional football. After 15 years of playing the sport that I fell in love with as a young boy, I’ve come to terms with the decision that it’s time for me to hang up the cleats.

What I will miss most is the people. To my teammates that turned into brothers, coaches that became mentors, and organizations that became second families… my heart is filled with love for you and I’m beyond grateful for the amazing memories we all share. I will cherish them until the day I die.

I am excited to start this new chapter in my life and see where the next adventure will take me.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

The Montreal Alouettes selected Poulin in the third-round of the 2018 CFL Draft. He dressed for 26 games over two seasons, recording seven total tackles and was featured predominantly on special teams.

The 26-year-old became a free agent in February 2021 but remained unsigned until announcing his retirement.
