ALOUETTES MOURN THE PASSING OF GEORGE SPRINGATE

The Montreal Alouettes mourn the passing of former player George Springate, who passed away at the age of 81.

Following his collegiate career at McGill University, he played three seasons with the Alouettes as a kicker, from 1970 to 1972, helping the team win the Grey Cup in 1970.

All our thoughts are with the Springate family during these difficult times,” declared Alouettes President and CEO Patrick Boivin. “Mister Springate was involved in the community at many levels. He leaves a great legacy behind and we can only recognize his tremendous work over the years.

Over the decades, the Montreal native served the people in many different ways, as he was a member of the National Assembly from 1970 to 1981 after being a police officer, in Montreal. He was also appointed a Citizenship judge twice (2000 and 2006) before being named Canada’s Senior Citizenship judge in 2008 for a five-year term. In 1989, he was decorated with the Order of Canada.
