Blue Bomber Walby Entertains at Sportman’s Dinner

It was another great night for the Terriers as they hosted their annual Sportsman’s Dinner and Auction at the Canad Inn last evening. This year’s guest speaker was former CFL Hall of Famer and three time Grey Cup Champion Chris Walby.
Former Blue Bomber Walby says he was excited to be asked to speak for the organization that he checked out on Wikipedia. He was impressed with the teams’ accomplishments in the last decade.
Walby was great at telling stories of his days on the field as well as the couple years he spent in the Manitoba Junior hockey league playing for the West Kildonan Northstars. His message was the same, no matter the sport, you’re playing for the name on the front of the jersey.
The 6’7 athlete had the audience laughing and even covering their eyes at times with stories of his journey in sport. He spoke of the difference coaches made in his life and keeping him on the right path.
“It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish…I lucked out, played 16 years and played football as a professional until I was 40 years old.”
Walby’s resounding message was teamwork. “Individuals win, teams win championships. Together everyone achieves more. In sport you work together for a common goal.”
Concluding the evening was the annual auction. On hand was an autographed Laine Jersey, A day trip to Crow Duck fishing resort, an autographed Walby jersey, and a bus trip and suite to a Wheat Kings game to name a few.
There was also an autographed game worn helmet and gloves from Winnipeg Jets Bryan Little that raised over $1000 for injured Terrier Alumni Braden Pettinger.
A big thank-you to all who attended and took part in the auction. Overall it was a successful night for the Terriers’ Organization.
Walby told the Terriers to enjoy their teammates as the faces are always changing.
